What's happening??????
Third Reading- 3/4 of the way through The Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson by Bette Bao Lord. Students created a vocabulary list and are working together together to define new words in context.
Fourth Reading- students are reading The Twenty-One Balloons by William Pene DuBois. The students have created vocabulary lists and used dictionaries to define and discuss new words. They are beginning research on themes in the novel, such as precious stones, hot air balloons, volcanoes and inventions. PowerPoint presentations will follow.
During the last quarter we will also return to the Junior Greatbook series collection of short stories. Focus is on reading comprehension and the Shared Inquiry process.
Fifth-Sixth Reading/Writing-students are midway through The Book Thief by Markus. They are also just beginning an independent research project by developing an Essential Question that will drive their research to create an answer and present findings to the class.
Third Math - students are working in geometry.
Fourth Math-working on angles, lines and measurement.
Fifth Math- students are learning to manipulate integers.
Sixth Math- students are relating percent and decimals to ratio and proportion. Students are also wrapping up The Stock Market Game, a real-world simulation that teaches about investments and the world of commerce.

All math students participated in the
World Math Day 2010 Challenge!
